Introducing the Biggest Bed EVER!!!

{Mr. Movie Voice Guy} In 1492, Columbus sailed the ocean blue....and discovered the Caribbean! Two weeks ago, I went to an auction and found Dev a new bed. {/end Mr. Movie Voice Guy}

Ok so that didn't rhyme or really roll off the tongue, but it's Columbus Day, so I had to add the bit about Mr. Columbus. :)

Well, this project was both a joy to do and a PITA. Joy because the bed was fun to work on, and I was so excited to give Dev the bed that he has wanted for a while. PITA because the older two males in the house were chomping at the bit to have it done, and one of them was even aghast at the recoat time of oil paint (24 hours). Sigh.

**Updated to include some previous pictures!**

Well it's done. There's not much to tell before. I primed it with a tinted oil-based primer and then two coats of hunter green enamel. I tried getting Devlin to go with a nice Williamsburg blue, but he was having none of it. He wanted hunter green, so that's what I bought. :) Dev also named his bed.....The Biggest Bed Ever!
Here's the bed before and while I was working on it:
The ball you see in the center of the picture behind the other headboard is Dev's new bed!

Here's Dev's room before:

Here it is now:

It's just a little difference. ;-) Dev loves his bed and it fits him perfectly. We added a variety of 1x12 and 1x10 boards cut to size for the slats of the bed. We then filled in the spaces with the original slats, because I didn't want to spend more money on a new box spring. The mattress is also low enough on the bed for Dev to easily get in and out. Oh yea...he does have a pillow, but it was being washed during these pictures. :)

Dev picked out his sheets and comforter. Both were on clearance at Target. The sheets are 450 thread count which we got for $12.48. Yep, that's the entire set. $12.48. Can't.beat.that.....or can we?

The comforter was $14.98 on clearance. Full size comforter. Reversible. $14.98. Well that's hard to beat, but  add those two prices together.

$27.46 for an entire bed set. Now that's amazing. A.mAz.InG. Can't.beat.it. Hot dog!

Well that's Dev's new bed. Tomorrow  we're going to talk Halloween, because it has got to be in the top 3 favorite holidays of mine! :)

Oh and I have an idea for lessening the amount of green in that boy's room. It is his favorite color but evidentally he'snever heard of moderation. :)

Have a great day!
Heather

  2. That came out great! I am impatient myself with "drying times" so I understand their frustration. =) What deals you got- I always seem to miss those clearance sales at target- glad you got 'em tho! The room looks wonderful. I know he is happy to have his biggest bed ever! Be blessed, Karyl (your newest follower)

  6. Thank you guys all so much for the commenty-love!

The bed is much nicer than that twin bed. Its nice to be able to lay down with him while reading. The green is growing on me, but the next project for his room is either a new pillow or decorating up that comforter. He told his Dad tonight that he wants to build airplanes. :)
