Au Naturale

Well what started as a 3 (ha!) day project has finally ended. 7 days later. Ugh. I have never been so glad to finish something.

Not only was this project long but it was messy and tiring. So very worth it though! So without much ado, lets get this motor started!

Here's the finished product, nothing like starting with dessert. :)

Well there she is. In all of her freshly scrubbed glory. No more sand on the floor or the counter tops. No more tools. No more stone dust. :)

Here are some pictures of the time line. :)

Three days worth of tiling. 2 hours of grouting and then just three wipe downs to get the tiles cleaned. Two hours of caulking. Totally worth it. Here are some more shots of the finished product.
Here is my favorite picture. :)
I love the texture of the natural stone. I love the colors and just how well it works.

Total cost breakdown for this project was:
$140 - 3 x 6 tile (20 boxes of slate, 5 of noche tumbled marble, 5 of chiaro tumbled marble)
$80 - tile saw
~$50  - grout, caulk, 1-1/2" screws, spacers, sponges and a bucket

$270 for a completely new look to our kitchen is not too bad. Granted I did go over budget because of the tile saw, but it was so worth the investment. In fact, my father has already asked to borrow it when he tiles part of his basement. :) Tomorrow I'm sharing all the things I learned from this project.

I hope you guys have enjoyed this marathon of a post. Have a great day!
Heather

  3. Looks great! I have just put up some glass, stone mosaic tiles for my backsplash...still have to do the grout but looks great! And yes what a messy job and interruption to using the kitchen.
One more day and I will be completed.
    Thanks goodness.
