The Monday Report - Winter Training Weeks 5 & 6

The Monday Report

Guess who's been failing all over the place for the last 2 weeks when it comes to working out?!?

Me!

Yay!

Dang holidays. So much stuff to get done and want to get done, and so very little time.

In the last two weeks, I've run twice. Thank goodness for for Saturday's.

Both runs were at the battlefield, which is just gorgeous this time of year. Hopefully, I'll get more runs in this week, and definitely get back into a better routine after Thanksgiving.

Here are the collages I shared on Instagram.

Here's to at least getting something done!

Pattern Review - McCall's 7199/MP460

Hey all I'm back with yet another pattern review!

I told you've I've been busy sewing up a storm.

Today's pattern is a fun little jacket, that is lightweight enough that you can wear it all day long.

This was a someday pattern, and I know I've mentioned my someday pattern collection before. Luckily, I haven't owned this pattern as long as some of the other patterns in that collection.

I don't know why the pattern envelope has a different number than what's on McCall's site. Maybe because it was displayed out on the floor?

I chose a fun print for this jacket, because 1) it's fun, 2) I tend to steer towards safe solid colors, and  3) I need to branch out!

The fabric was a pretty stable moderate knit, and it was heaven to work with.

The pattern itself was pretty easy, I do wish the zipper instruction was a little clearer.

Better illustrations for installing the zipper and lining everything up would've been nice too, but overall the guide sheet and the pattern work up fairly easy and without too much grumbling about the way they do things.

Oh and a mark or better illustration about the snap placement, but like I said, there's nothing overly difficult about this pattern.

I'm such a happy model.

I did alter the pattern between the waist and hips, and that didn't pose any problems. I'm excited about rotating this piece into my normal wardrobe. Its not your typical "mom" wear, but it's got pockets and is long enough that I'm not constantly tugging it down.

Pretty happy with the newest addition to the closet.

Have a terrific day everyone!

Pattern Review - McCall's 6124

I'm back with another sewing pattern review!

Do you guys have those patterns that you keep returning to, because they're just right?

This is one of those patterns. I can't recall how many times I've made a shirt or tunic from this pattern.

This time I did change it up though and made a shirt dress. I did have to alter it (dang hips), but I was also trying to copy a dress I saw at Target that I liked.

What to Eat Wednesday - A Trail Mix Primer

So I'm diving into the old blog again to dig out some gems. I'm resurrecting a post that my sister did about Trail Mix and how she creates her mixes. There's some good info here, so I hope you enjoy this little travel back in time.

Whoo!  It's been a crazy couple of weeks, hasn't it?  Holidays tend to do that.  I'm back, though, and I have lots of yummy things to share.  This week, though, is a pretty easy one...some assembly required.

Homemade Trail Mix

This is the ultimate make-your-own food!  Trail mix is, quite possibly, my most favorite snack of all time, and, in my own non-professional opinion, it's really healthy too as long as you follow some guidelines.  Here's my theory...where's my trail mix soapbox?

It's me again!  Your friendly, neighborhood Dana.  Man, Heather's been super nice to let me take over her blog so often lately.  Today I'm here to review Zooma Nashville!  Sadly, I have no pictures, so...come with me, and you'll see, a world of pure imagination.

Hah!  I lied about the pictures. XD

The Monday Report - Winter Training Week 4

The Monday Report

How do you know that you're entering another busy season for the family?

Everything has to get prioritized.

Including exercise.

Usually exercise makes the cut, and I'm happy about that.

Some days, though. Some days you need the exercise if only to have a bit of time to yourself, but, of course, sometimes that doesn't always work out.

Sometimes you just need to force yourself.

That was kind of the case last week. I wanted to work out, but there's a crapton to be done around the house and in preparation for the coming holidays, and I got 3 out of 5 workouts in, but I may fudge that and say 4 out of 5.

So let's get on with it.

Heroes, Legends, and Villains, OH MY!

Soooooooooo...this isn't Heather.  It's her little sister, Dana!  Isn't that quite exciting?  Why have I commandeered her blog?  Commandeered, nautical term.  Name the film.

Ten points to you!  Right, why am I here?  To tell you about my latest baby.  Nope, not a baby as in diapers-crying-oh-crap-I-don't-want-to-break-it.  Rather, my latest book.  A book?!  That's crazy talk.  Maybe, but it's true.  I released the first one, Skateboards, Magic, and Shamrocks about three years ago.  Then I thought, "Oh!  I bet I can get the next one out in about a year!"  Hah!  Silly me.  So what's that one about?  Well...

The Long and Short of It - The Parks 10K

Sunday was definitely a good day.

I got an extra hour of sleep, so my 5 am 5:20 am wake-up wasn't terrible. It was rainy and a little windy and I got to run a race! A race I've been looking forward to for some time, and my mom joined me.

My mom has actually never been to one of my races for the full thing. She's come at the tail end of races to watch me finish, but it's just never worked out that she could be there for the whole thing.

So when plans changed at my house, and the husband wanted a last hurrah at a golf tournament on the same day as my race, she stepped in to by my cheerleader and driver. I don't know if I was more excited that she was joining me or the fact that it was finally here.

Oh, and I need to apologize to everyone. It's my fault it rained. It's a race, and I'm participating. It's bound to rain. The rain started just after the start, but did end just before I finished. Yay! I'm so glad that all of the rain fell for the 1 hour I was going to be running.

Mother Nature we need to have a talk. Seriously.

The Monday Report - Winter Training Week 3

The Monday Report

Hello all! I hope this Monday finds all of you well.

I'm exhausted. This month has been hectic for us, and there's little reprieve in sight. I am thankful for our blessings though. I'm just a little tired. Frazzled, even.

Training this week was good. I got in three runs and a power walk that might've been the death of me if it weren't for my friend suffering through it with me. The walk was tougher than the runs!

I'm still getting back into the swing of things with Baby Girl and her stroller in tow. That thing is a workout in and of itself. Holy crap! 2 of the workouts included pushing it around. It didn't help that one of the wheels is a little low on air, so the stupid thing wanted to tug to the right the whole time.

I need to remember to put the bike pump in the car, and just have it with me all the time.

Overall, this was a great week. Not much cross-training got done, save the walk, but the runs were good. So here's the scoop!
