Reclaimed Oak Bar Table

1/21/2016 0 Comments
So the next project on our list after getting the media center done, is a skinny bar table. It's going to sit behind our big, red couch down in the basement to offer more people viewing space of the TV for the big game.

Luckily, this was a super simple design. We're going to be using some of the wood that I got from my grandparents. If you remember, we ended up using cherry and walnut for the tops of the media center, but the oak we separated out for this table.

The table's dimensions are 20" deep, 72" wide, and 36" tall. Perfect for sitting behind the couch for some stadium-like seating.

Finished Media Center

Well it's done.

The behemoth is complete.

Thank goodness.

Not that I don't totally love that the hubs and I built it, by ourselves, but man..........

Building it was the easy part. That finishing part......

It's a darn good thing, it's so freaking gorgeous, or else I might be a little more bitter about spending 16+ hours with it, just painting and sealing it.

The Belated Monday Report - Week 1 Spring Training

I wrote this post yesterday, and didn't get the pictures edited until today. Oops.

The Monday Report

Happy Monday everyone!

Did everyone have a great week/end? Everyone is home on this MLK Jr. Day, so I'm hoping to get my run in, but it may not happen.

With everyone home, and the basement getting put back to rights today, there's just a lot to do. However, all is not lost. While I've been working away in the basement, I've been incorporating core and strength exercises into the work.

Oh you want to paint that spot a little lower? SQUAT! Keep that core engaged. You want to move over to that spot over there, but you're sitting on the floor? Core engaged and haul yourself up, because you don't want to get paint everywhere. You're still holding the paintbrush and the paint cup.

Basic moves like that. I'll tell you I can feel where I've worked. That and painting for as long as I have been, will do a number on your anyways.

So without digressing much further here's the rundown for last week.

Where to start?

Friday, I shared plans for our new basement built-in, and it's coming along fabulously!

Slowly, but fabulously. Tonight we'll be attaching the tops to the cabinets, and then tomorrow we'll be building shelves. Or at least one shelf. I'm hoping one bookshelf gets completed tomorrow night.

I'm jumping way ahead of myself though.

So I drew up the plans for the media center a while back, and tweaked it over several weeks, based on discussions with the hubs. Then I apparently "forgot" to show the hubs the final design. He saw it last Friday, along with all of you. It's a good thing he trusts me and he liked it, elsewise we'd have had some problems.

So to refresh your memory. Here is the media center.

The Monday Report - Not much to report

I would love to tell you guys that I had a stellar week, and in some respects I did.

I improved my eating, and started tracking stuff towards the end of the week. I feel really good about that.

I only "worked out" once. I went to spin on Tuesday, and it was a fabulous class.

Then the house got the rest of my attention. Christmas got fully put away, and we started on a huge project in the basement.

So while last week could've been better in the exercise department, I feel good about the week as whole, mostly because of getting my diet back under control, and even if I didn't do dedicated workouts, I was still active and moving.

This week starts Spring Training, and I'm totally counting our hauling of wood and cabinets as cross training on Sunday. Oh and there were many, many, MANY trips up and down our basement stairs.

Well I need to get my butt to the gym, so I can get in my run. See you guys later!

Building Some Storage

Why is it that whenever January rolls around the hubs and I take on the house?

If you'd guessed holiday clean-up, you'd be wrong. It's Super Bowl.

We've hosted Super Bowl parties fairly regularly, but this is our 2nd year hosting it for the neighborhood. I'm actually excited. Well not to say I wasn't excited last year, because I was. The Pats were playing. I have to be excited for that. Patriot fan by marriage here.

I'm doubly excited this year, because of this!

Spring Training and Calendars

1/07/2016 0 Comments

Happy Thursday All! Man, I haven't done a Fit 4 Thursday in a while. I've missed it.

I love when you do a search for inspirational fitness quotes and google returns 80 bajillion of them, and right off the bat you see like 5 quotes that speak to you.

Then you open Photoshop. You buy a calendar template from your favorite digital scrapbook shop (Peppermint Creative), and then you let the creativity fly.

I got my training calendar for the spring made up, and then I made blank calendars for the whole year for you guys!
