Glue and Glitter

Glue and Glitter...how I loathe thee. Oh wait...I meant love. No, I really meant loathe. Hrm. I seem to be confused. I really, really love glitter. I love the sparkle, shine, and prettiness of it. I loathe the mess, clean-up, and the mess. I really hate the mess. R.E.A.L.L.Y hate the mess. I also hate that it gets everywhere, especially on my chin. On my chin while driving down to my mothers to have lunch then take the boys to see Santa. Having Stephen trying to clean it off my face, cause you know I was driving, and telling me that I'll have to deal because it's clumping and not coming off. Great. I glued it to my face. Terrific. sigh.

Well lets get on with the glitter and glue, because you're gonna see it a lot this week. I'm making some last minute ornaments for the trees and gift toppers, and they all have glitter!!

I saw some ornaments with maps wrapped around a ball and then glittered. They wanted $9 a piece for these! $9! Are you kidding me?! You are insane. In.Sane. This schmuck is not going to pay $9 for something that I can make for free at home. So that's what I did.  I headed over to The Graphics Fairy and printed off some of her sheet music then ripped some pages from my 1974 Webster's Collegiate Dictionary, and went to town.

Here's what I got!

I did not take pictures of the construction, because really its simple.
  1. Smudge spackle all over your styrafoam ball unless its the smooth kind, then you don't have to do this, but this makes the glue stick better. Let dry
  2. Rip page out of book {or print out a full size image on letter paper}, then paint a line of glue around the middle of your styrafoam ball. Wrap paper around the ball and hold until glue holds it.
  3. Cut your paper into strips, stopping the cut when you hit the ball. Do this around the entire ball, and repeat for other side. Trim your strips until the paper strips reach just beyond the end of the ball.
  4. Paint glue onto the inside of the strips and then paint them down on top of the ball. Make sure to curve the paper around the ball. Do this for all the strips.
  5. Paint the entire thing in glue and then roll around in your glitter. Let dry
  6. Add hanger and put on tree or gift.
And voila! You've got a super simple and glimmery ornament!

Now if you don't mind I'm going to scrub my face and hands down to try and remove this damn glitter. :)

LOL. I hope you guys enjoyed and have a terrific day! Tomorrow I will have another ornament post.
