The Long and Short of Rock 'N Roll DC!

3/16/2017 0 Comments

So last Saturday was my first half marathon for 2017, and boy is there room for improvement!

Not that I had any delusions that I'd be getting a PR this race. I've been lazy and dealing with foot troubles most of the winter. I also didn't make a lot of good decisions that maybe would've helped my time either. I clocked a 2:58:48, which is not my slowest half, but the slowest half was preceded by a 5k so that one gets an asterisk.

Like I said, I made a lot of dumb mistakes, and I know better, but even if I was disappointed in my decision-making capabilities, the race was still awesome.

I had terrific company, and my friend even PR'd her half time! Of course, she finished about 20 minutes before me, and had to wait in the cold, but that's what friends are for right?

Bullet Journal Love

3/03/2017 0 Comments

So the bullet journal is not a new thing. It's been around. In fact, I started using it last year, but it didn't stick around.

I started my bullet journal in March of last year, after I was feeling overwhelmed with all the sources of information I had stored in various places. I was drowning a little, because I would constantly forget things even though I knew that I'd put the information somewhere. Unfortunately, after May I stopped using my journal. I don't know why, but the journal sat dormant for the next 7 months.

Fit 4 Thursday - Fabletics Tank

3/02/2017 1 Comments

I've been so bad about posting, that I've got a backlog of posts about all the new gym gear I scored in December. Old Navy and Fabletics got a lot of my business in December.

I'm signed up for Fabletics VIP program a while back and then didn't use them. Nothing spoke to me, so I skipped several months and kept my $50 in my pocket each of those months. Then one month I forgot to skip, and I ended up with a member credit. I still have that member credit, because the sale that I took advantage of in December was actually cheaper for me to pay for the clothes outright than to use my member credit.

I ended up scoring 2 pairs of Salar leggings, extra long, of course, and a couple of new tanks. I'm going to be talking about one of the tanks today.

Fit 4 Thursday - Old Navy Active

2/23/2017 0 Comments

It's been awhile since I've done one of my features, and it's really just because I'm a slacker.

Today I am not a slacker. Today I have a post for you about some of Old Navy's acitvewear. I will apologize in advance for the cruddy pictures. I am not great at taking full length pictures of myself.

A very long time ago, I complained about the lack of options for us tall gals in the fashion department. Add in a bit of hip, and you've got a nightmare for properly fitting pants. Of any kind, but we're talking activewear here, so I'll stick to just those pants.

Adding a POP of Color!

2/17/2017 0 Comments

When I started kicking around the idea of redoing our room, I knew that I wanted my vanity to have a bolder presence in the room and that meant finding the right big color for it.

My original plan was to paint the vanity the color that ended up on the walls, because I wasn't going to paint the room again. When the hubs said that we could paint the room, well that was a game changer, and I knew the exact color that the vanity would be painted - a bright emerald green, Luscious Green, to be exact.

Finding the color wasn't at all difficult, a quick trip to Lowe's and I had the chip, and then when I found the lamps and needed to paint them, the paint color was also a spray paint color! That's fate right there. I wish finding fabric with a strong green was as easy a task. That's a story for another day though.

Watercolor Splatter Art

2/02/2017 0 Comments

So we've all been on pinterest and found certain projects that on the surface look fairly simple to accomplish. Then you get into the project, and you realize that you are so far over your head that you need to take a different approach. 5 approaches later, you realize that you are not an artist and you have merely accomplished an impressive display of pinterest fails.

Agate watercolor art was my downfall. What could be so hard about that? A lot. Or maybe it's just me. Either way, after 5 or 6 tries, I resorted to a different approach for my watercolor art in my bedroom.

I threw paint. I'm good at throwing paint.

Creating a Retreat

1/23/2017 0 Comments

I'd like to think that my husband and I are not the only ones who neglect their bedroom. I mean it's a room that you sleep in, because, honestly, who really has more time than that to spend in their room? It's not like I'm a child who can get grounded to their room, but wouldn't that be amazing? Obviously, my children don't always think going to their room is amazing.

So we first decorated our room, several years ago, I never got it done, and made some (a lot?) of mistakes when I decorated it. After a few years, I didn't love what I'd done to our room, and wanted to change it up again. If you're curious as to the original update post, you can find it {HERE}.

The main problem is that our room is cavernous (it's something ridiculous like 17' x 22') and becomes a dumping ground for everything from things that need to be donated, to just stuff that I don't know where else to put. This does not make for a very inviting or relaxing area.

It's gotten to the point that our lives are hectic. With me going back to work, and my husband having to pick up a lot of the evening activities that the kids have, our room was causing us as much stress as our schedules. A change needed to happen. We needed a retreat.

Mason Jar Latte: The Journey for Pumpkin Spice

12/07/2016 0 Comments

"ERHMAGHERD!!!  PUMPKIN!!!  AHHHHHHHHH!!!" -- People everywhere on September 1st, every year.  Don't get me wrong, I love me some pumpkiny goodness.  But the pumpkin-mania has gotten a little out of control, don't you think?  I just did a quick Google search for "pumpkin spice" and found this as the second link.  Pumpkin spice Cheerios?  Bailey's?  Triscuits?  Wine?!

[Pulls out a bullhorn] Calm down, everyone.  This is not a drill.  Please sit your crazy tails down and breathe.

Long and Short of the Zombies, Run! Fall Virtual Race

12/06/2016 0 Comments

You guys may remember my review from last spring about the Zombies, Run! virtual race.  Well, I've done it again.  They held another one back in October, and I loved the last one so much I signed up for it as soon as it was announced.

Like the spring virtual race, this last one came with some great swag and a bunch of extra content.

So here's everything all together.  That little brown card in the upper left corner are my mission instructions.  And the envelope in the bottom right are my post-race completion prizes.  And how do you like that stamp on the envelope itself?  I wonder what my mail carrier thinks.
