AWOL

4/16/2012 1 Comments
I can't believe how long it's been since I posted anything up.

I feel a little bad because I do have stuff to share. It's just been hard to motivate myself. Well motivate myself crafty wise. I've been trying to focus on me and the other journeys we're on.

So anyways I wanted to share the yarn orbs I made along with where my dining room stands right now.

There are tons of yarn orb tutorials out there so I'm not going to share the how-I-did-it's. My problem is now what to do with them. I've wanted them hit I did not give much thought to what to do with them after I made them. Oh well. Not a bad problem to have.

I've also added some new color to the walls but I do t think it's the color in going to go with. I think I'd like to go a hair darker. The color up there is "Weekend in the Country" it's a color by valspar. I think I'd like to try "City Chic". Its a smudge darker but also with some purple in it, which I think will play well off of the browns, reds, and yellows that will be going in the room.

I'd also like to update the ceiling of the dining room. I want to go with a darker color up there. I really like the color "Shoe Polish" by valspar. It's exactly what you think it is. A nice ruddy brown and since my dining room has 10 foot ceilings the dark color will have no problem being above our heads. I also want to beef up the moulding on the ceiling.

Well that's all I have for right now. Tomorrow I'll share a lampshade redo that I'm really loving.

Spring Time in the House!

3/15/2012 0 Comments
Hey guys!

I've been busy around here lately, but have neglected to take pictures. I know.....I'm horrible.

Here's the dining room and message center in the house right now.

I moved stuff  around and I'm really loving all of it.

There's also some sneak peeks here and there too. :)

So here's the message center - complete with awards and artwork and school announcements. I moved the tall branches that framed our front door in the foyer to over here to help connect the whole vignette. Its also safer  for  them here. Boys are destructive. :)

So here's a look from the foyer into the dining room. You can see that I have fabric in the extra chairs. Its all the same fabric, but I only felt like folding 3 yards of the 15 yards  in there. Oh well. You can also see some paint chips on the wall. Yep, I want to paint the dining room again. This  room has been such a PITA to get right. I don't hate the way it looks right now, but I think the dining and living rooms need freshning, hence the new fabric. I have many, many plans for this room. You're going away in May, right honey? ;-)

I  don't know if you guys remember this mirror from when I moved it out of the butler's pantry area (now the message center) and when I moved it out that area I propped it  up against the wall in the dining room and left  it there for about a month. H had great fun watching himself be a goofball in the mirror, and was quite displeased with me when I decided that I was going to prop it up against the wall on the buffet. I love how the mirror helps  open up that wall visually. I even like that it doesn't match the buffet.

Here's the table. I pulled out the denim runner that I made years ago and then topped it off with my pewter pitcher, dogwood branches and all of my glass and crystal candlesticks and hurricanes. I love how everything comes together. What I don't love  is that my candles don't seem to want to stay in said candlesticks. Oh well.

Here are just some pretty shots of the table. I'm just playing with the camera. :)

And here are the color swatches. Which color do  you think I'm going to go with? I received my free Valspar paint sample today, and I can't wait to see how it looks on the wall!

See you guys later!

Git-r-Done!

Its done and I couldn't be happier about it. The hubs would have been ever so much happier had I gotten it done months ago, but I couldn't decide on those doors. What, you may ask, am I talking about?

Why that blasted red cabinet!

Here she is now!

Here she was then.

Now.

Then.

Ugly and needing some love

Prettified and able to hold her head up high!

So I picked up this little beaut back in April or March and there she sat for a while. Then I pulled out the liquid sander and the vinegar, and boy did those two do a number to her finish.

So after hitting the poor thing with that 1-2 punch, I then started priming her. Red tinted primer is such a lovely shade!

Then  I hit her with a gazillion coats of red paint. Not quite that many, but I did not buy the paint with primer in it and I should have. This shade of red went on fuchsia but dried to this lovely deep red.

An then the poor thing sat. I moved her back into the dining room and filled her up with stuff. Harrison banged stuff all around. The paint took its licks. Chrome spray paint chipped off of some projects and stuck to it. Then I finally decided that I would just make do with the doors that had come with her. I had originally thought of cutting out those louvers but then H went to work and I didn't really want to show off the inside. Maybe one day. After getting everything back together, I decided that some black glaze would do the trick. So I mixed some up  and went to work. And here she is now!

So there she is. Finally done, and looking so fine. :) I'm happy that she's finally done. She's holding napkins and napkin rings, along with some other serving pieces that I don't want seen all the time.

I hope you guys enjoyed! Please remember that tomorrow is the last day to sign up for guest posting here next week. There are still spots open! So go ahead...email me..you know you want to :)

Have a great day and enjoy!

When the Cat's away....

the mice will paint?!?!

So I showed you guys what I was up to on Thursday, but that was just the tip of the iceberg! After getting the ceiling painted and thinking that putting up the moulding would be a two-person job (and it was...kind of), and deciding that the dining room needed to be a new color...I remembered that Saturday we were having the monthly potluck...at our house....CRAP!?!?!?
The dining room as of Thursday.

Well, after whipping out my magic super-woman wand....and help from Dev and Steve it all got done. H 'helped' too, but his involvement included me cleaning up some paint off the  carpet. Not the kind  of help I was looking for, but he tried!

So here's what the room looks like now!

I  put up screened moulding. Its barely 1" wide, but I painted it the same trim color as the rest of the house so it blends. I do still have some touch ups to do on the ceiling, but putting that stuff up mostly by myself, was a PITA! I sympathize with Michaelangelo! The best part about that moulding is its $3.68 for an 8' section.I ended up needing only 56 feet, but I bought 64. I secured it up there with liquid nails, and while the liquid nails was drying I secured it up there with blue painter's tape.

So here's the new color! Loving it! The room only needed one coat of rolled on paint, but the cutting in required two coats. I bought 2 cans of paint, but only used 1. Valspar's Signature series is really nice, and it goes and goes and goes. The original color was Behr and was done in their equivalent primer+paint and it still needed two coats of paint. I love me some Valspar. Now....I just need something else to paint this sage green. :) I also need some artwork to anchor either side of that buffet.....Oh and I lowered the shelves above the buffet. It works much better now.

I love my ceiling medallion! It cost about $30 but totally worth it! It came in two pieces and was super simple to put up there. The hubs did it, because he lowered the light for me so we could put it up there. I decided not to paint the medallion.

Another shot of the buffet, with lowered shelves, and the new wall color. This is the lightest color I have painted anything downstairs. I was worried that it wouldn't flow with the rest of the house, because I have such warm jewel tones in most of the rest of house, but it works. The sage color is actually in all of the fabrics, and with the reds being on the ceiling it does help tie it all in together. Love!

That poor red cabinet that I still need to finish. It would help if I could figure out if I want to to reinstall the doors or just do a fabric curtain in there. Decisions, decisions!

And September's center piece. Most of the items there came from the dollar store. I'll be doing a how-I-did-it on it in a bit!

So that's how I spent the latter half of the week that the hubs was in New Orleans. He wasn't sure about the ceiling when he came home but after the wall color changed and the moulding went up he's liking it. So I'm very happy with how it came out, and I'm even more tickled that I got to work with it with Dev. Dev is now personally showing it off to everyone who visits the house. :)

Have a great day and enjoy!

What have you been up to?

8/12/2010 1 Comments
So I completely spaced that yesterday was Wednesday and that's when my very first linky party was supposed to start. I'm late to my own party! Ack!

Oh well, better late than never.  :) I want to see what you guys have been doing and it can be anything as long as its family friendly. You can also enter up to 5 projects.

The person with the most visited link will win the $40 CSN gift card!

The linky party will run until 7 pm on Sunday EST, so lets see those projects. I'm very interested in what you guys have been doing!

Here's what I've been doing:

Yep I  painted my ceiling! I still have to add white trim to frame out the boxes on the ceiling and I want to pick up a ceiling medallion for the light, but I've started it. There's no going back now. Oh and I know hate the color of my dining room. Stephen comes home tonight, and he doesn't know it yet, but tomorrow he's going to help me repaint that room. :) Isn't that the sweetest welcome home gift?!?!? :)

Alrighty, lets see what you got!
